The Organisation
The Children’s Cancer Institute that employs 350 researchers, operational staff and students has established an international reputation for excellence and is the only independent Australian institute dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood cancer. The Institute’s focus is on translational research, where an integrated team of laboratory researchers and clinician scientists work to discover new treatments which can be progressed from the lab bench directly to children.
The Institute has recently embarked on an adventure, joining the Kids Cancer Centre, Sydney Children’s Hospital, in the Randwick precinct, in a purpose-built Cancer Centre with naming rights donors Minderoo Foundation, other generous benefactors, the NSW and Federal Governments, and the University of NSW which will house up to 900 child cancer clinicians and scientists.

The Role
Leading a large team in all streams of fundraising revenue, through the development and implementation of the ‘journey of one’ engagement strategy, you will work with a highly skilled collegiate fundraising, communications, marketing and data team as well as academics and professionals.
You will further develop an already successful program, with a focus on philanthropic and high-net-worth donors, Trusts and Foundations and bequestors, as well as crucial corporate sponsors, regular and annual donors, and those giving via community programs and events.
Your other key accountabilities include;
- Providing expertise on fundraising and solicitation techniques
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing donor engagement strategies
- Leading and developing a passionate team of fundraising professionals
- Championing innovative ways to acquire donors by leveraging new technologies
- Analysing and reporting trends, recommending continuous improvement
- Building and managing collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders
- Ongoing contribution to the marketing, fundraising and organisational strategy and Ways of Working as a member of the senior and extended leadership teams
Skills Required
You’re currently in a senior role leading a highly skilled team responsible for a diverse portfolio. Your career has focussed on establishing philanthropic relationships, ideally with experience in the medical research institute, university, charity, arts or related sectors. The key to your success will include your ability to pass on to your team the experience of driving end to end processes in all forms of fundraising.
You are degree qualified in a business, marketing or related field, with evidence of senior management in a development, fundraising or related role. You have demonstrated capability in change and project management, business planning, reporting and preparation of presentations to senior stakeholders including the board, donors, management and staff. You have leveraged new technologies via digital activations, predictive analysis of consumer behaviour and triggered marketing.
